The Pyrène forges

The 5-hectare museum site showcases 120 trades, most of which have disappeared, a collection of 6,500 tools, several workshops led by our guides, and an original show about daily life at the beginning of the last century.

In this timeless hamlet, the hammering of an old forge converted into a toolmaking workshop in the 19th century still resonates. A unique piece and listed as a Historic Monument in 1983, the hammer forge (a large forging hammer powered by a waterwheel) is the last one still in operation in France. This lively and enjoyable museum for young and old alike welcomes you for tours from two hours to full days. The workshops are covered and operate in all weathers.
